Amazing house renovation by this Japanese carpenter. The first thing he does is level the floor, so that any subsequent work can rely on it.

TIL: Denmark switched to the metric system in 1907, but apparently some Danish carpenters still prefer to measure in inches, and Hultafors still sells folding rules with both systems.

Note however that the Danish inch ("tomme") is 26.1 mm.

I framed and installed three windows this summer in our family's old cabin in New Jersey.

Took my nearly 3 hours to create this continuous wall rail today.

For the first hour everyone was on me asking me questions about other things and the final two hours the builders were tearing down a wall smothering everything in dust.

Great day…

Finished this hospital job. It’s been a nightmare from start to finish.

The staircase was poorly installed so I had to take it apart and put it back together properly. All the newels were pissed which messed up the handrail heights and I am glad it’s finished.

Turned out quite nice. #carpentry #woodworking

I have a legitimate #TimberTips today for those who want to hang their own doors.

There is actually a right and wrong way to put your hinges.

See in the picture there is a gap between the hinge blade and the pin? That is your indication that that side should always go on the door.

The other hinge blade has no gap at the top or bottom. This is to support the pin so that over time it doesn't bend from the weight of the door and that goes on the frame.

You have no idea how often I see these the wrong way around.

This is especially important on bathroom doors because the constant change in humidity can cause the door to move and swell more than usual.

The doors are coming along. Just got to rub them down, paint them and then fit the lock and fit them. #carpentry #woodwork
