i sorta wish i could get a steamdeck or steamdeck ajacent hardware
they got distros that aren't steamos that function similarly to steamos

@reallyangry There's a few Linux distros that are more focused towards gaming. I learned the other day that SteamOS ha actually been unsupported for almost 6 years.

repo.steampowered.com/steamos/

@RegalBeagle technically yes, that's the old steamos based on debian, the new steamos that runs on steamdeck is based on arch and that's what valve maintains now but it's not open to public use, there's distros like bazzite that basically provide a steamdeck steamos like experience i think bazzite is based on fedora tho.
@RegalBeagle supposedly valve is also working on a steamos public release right now that is basically the steamdeck os for general use, i'm just using an arch derivative right now called garuda as my main os i've had no real issues with it i recently transfered my home folder to it's own partition and drive lol

@reallyangry I've just cobbled together a vanilla Arch build and it's been working pretty well for the last year or so. Only issues I have are Rocksmith 2014 and certain games that uses Bepinix for loading mods.

I'll check out Garuda. Arch is maintained by a bunch of degens these days, so a replacement may be in order soon.

@RegalBeagle i dunno if garuda is good or bad, it's just what i've used since i started using linux again after decades it worke don my laptop well enough, it's arch based it's on the zen kernel tho you can install w/e kernel you want, it's kinda easy, when i first installed it ia ccidentally installed it on a 500gb platter drive i had in my computer that i forgot existed lol
so i had a dual boot running, then i cloned it over to the t1b ssd and deleted the hdd and put that in another computer
i recently put in a 120gb nvme drive and a 1tb nvme drive in the main pc, then reinstalled garuda onto the 120 nvme and made the 1tb nvme my home drive, then i used rsycn to move all my files from the other hard drive that i mounted inside another computer have here and rebooted and the computer has allt he settings i had all my files and stuff just work, it's pretty amazing tbh.

@reallyangry Doesn't sound so bad to switch. I'm already running of the zen kernel anyways. Was the first kernel I found that had proper ALSA support. I'm not smart enough to audio working properly at that level.

@RegalBeagle i think garuda uses pipewire or w/e its' called
but all my shit worked out of hte box even the nvidia graphisc card.

@reallyangry Through manners of dark sorcery, I've gotten ALSA and pipewire to co-exist as long as no device is being used by both at the same time.
