Years ago I lost the will to read fiction but I'm not completely sure why. I know men generally are less inclined to read fiction and lean more toward informational material. That's not to say there is anything wrong with fiction in any format but for whatever reason I can no longer make myself read it. Hell when I game I don't even want to read or listen to dialog unless I can keep playing as it plays on the side. Narratives no longer interest me and instead I've come to prefer world building.

@dwarvenallfather I lost the interest in it too. Men deal more in reality and in fiction the writer puts a lot of his bias and his understanding of reality, which is often incorrect as writers tend to drive the story to where they want instead of letting it develop and grow.

One the last good fiction was game of thrones books as George R. Martin, before he got famous, allowed the characters to build their own story and act in consistence with their own defined rules.

When I did a little creative writing years ago I'd let the story write itself and had no plan for what I was creating.

That's what great writers do. You focus on the characters, set the world building and let it roll, embracing the chaos.
