Ironically, it wasn't a democracy. Leo Frank had a honest long trial and was convicted of murder, being condemned to hanging.
The reason they ended up lynching him is because a jew in the supreme court tried to invalidate his obvious murder conviction and corrupt the system. So...fuck the jews, as usual.
