Self control is something few people have. I enjoy intrusive and dark thoughts, but mostly as entertainment. Having them is not reason to take action or do harm.
You're right, we can't have nice things. I suggest you forget that dream because utopias are exactly that: someone else's nightmare and none of them works.
IMO it's by design. We humans are animals, we can never agree but we can compromise and come to mutual beneficial agreements, which is pretty cool already.

There it is. Tolkien was also a dreamer and he used that gift to create one of the best fantasy worlds in writing history.
Go nuts! Write that grimdark high fantasy but keep it grounded in the world's rules and consistent, let the characters grow and develop over time. You'll get a masterpiece if done well.
