The problem is this is a resource constraint issue, so you can't solve it in a way that will make everybody happy.
The only real way out of this is it goes kinetic, a LOT of people die, and then the people remaining draw up a new social contract.
But (almost) nobody is excited by the prospect of a civil war that will almost certainly be protracted and painful for everyone - and people like to lie to themselves, so everyone's running around pretending that MAYBE like AI will save the day or something and this problem will just magically stop being a problem...

You're right, but most people coping and hoping for an external savior that will never come is not feasible.
There's no way to make everybody happy. Eventually men will have to ignore everyone's feeling and work on (re)building a society that works, grows and is able to solve difficult problems by itself.
It's quite hard to know how the new social contract will be since we aren't sure who will survive the purge, but resilience and courage will become mandatory by default. Pain will ensure it.
You can probably look to something like Constantin's salvation of the Eastern Roman Empire as a model. But computers and internet do change things quite a lot...
