my best guess is a highly sensitive infrared sensor and, yes, quite possibly that relies on some sort of quantum effect 🤷‍♀️

@skdh My guess is a satellite camera together with some rough estimates given the last seen location of the plane, coupled with natural hiding places based on the local geography.
