Gaining a lot less coverage than the World Economic Foundation's annual shindig in Davos, next week in Oxford the annual Skoll World Forum focusses on the idea of social entrepreneurship (not least the B-Corp movement) to look at how capitalism might be done differently.

While this will be of little interest to those of you who think capitalism is the problem, for reformists who see a range of capitalist models, this might be something to look at?

@ChrisMayLA6 I think the key question is, how come we abandoned capitalism as it was originally designed? Today, we're closer to mercantilism, where the government has an enormous influence over the market. The result is badly working markets, and wealth accumulating with the person who have the best connections with government.

What we really need, is a dismantling of governments and government interference in the markets, and "get back to basics".

@h4890

Hmmm.... I'm not capitalism ever was really 'designed' in the round, certainly political economic forces forces some social development but the entire history is more fragmented, which is why I have hope for reform - there is nothing definitive about the current form(s) of capitalism - whether there was ever a 'basic' capitalism to which we could return I think depends much on how you see this history, rather than whether today's capitalism is n some way a corrupted form.

@ChrisMayLA6 It is a valid opinion, and I do not have an answer. ;)
