@ChrisMayLA6 Tolls are a non-starter. That would mean, that every single country on the planet, who controls a stretch of sea, would have to impose tolls to counter the iran/oman tolls.
That would be economic suicide.
@ChrisMayLA6 @h4890 I suggest that Iran’s control over Hormuz is more of an insurance policy against the existential threat from Israel. Diplomacy is needed but the paedophiles and felons in the US and Israel prefer war-war over jaw-jaw.
Yes, I think that is at least partially right; it's certainly been shown to be a useful lever for Iranian political aims
@ChrisMayLA6 @H4Heights Regardless of what one thinks about taxing the strait, yes, it is definitely a card to be used during negotiations. I would do so myself.
@H4Heights @ChrisMayLA6 But you must keep in mind that israel is only defending itself. After all, their culture was almost eradicated in ww2, so they have every reason to attack anyone who threatens to bomb them out of existence, like iran has repeatedly done.
@h4890 @ChrisMayLA6 Yes. But. The Zionist ideology at the inception of the state of Israel has morphed and evolved into something very sinister that the region has learned to fear and not without reason.
@H4Heights @ChrisMayLA6 What is this "zionist" ideology? This term arouses suspicion in me. Israel is a modern, democratic country, used to living under constant threat of eradication and a new holocaust. I think calling it "zionist ideology" is very sinister.
@h4890 @ChrisMayLA6 Dude… do some research. A lot of research. Bon chance.
@H4Heights @ChrisMayLA6 No, you sound like an extremist. You should contact your local israeli embassy and meet jews in person. They are wonderful people!
Arabians on the other hand... they just rape and wage war. Should be forbidden outside arabia! 🇮🇱 ✝️ 🇺🇸
@ChrisMayLA6 The panama canal is an artificial canal, and as such it is possible to tax ships going through. The same goes for the suez canal.
So let's say Oman builds a new canal further away from Hormuz, inland, to get away from iranian rockets, then I'd say they would be allowed to tax ships.
For natural canals, international law forbids taxation.
As for a condition for peace, of course iran wants the world to hand them a golden goose on a plate. The world would be very foolish to do so.
@EvilSandmich @ChrisMayLA6 This is a good point! First of all, I think that the world (hopefully) now realizes that Trump will just pack up and leave, and won't care about any tariffs as long as it does not affect the US.
So the key then, would be for iran to calculate how much it would cost europe to send ships there, and then make sure the tolls are low enough not to be worth it.
But given the value of all the oil that passes, and the cost of sending a few ships to sink iranian boats,
@EvilSandmich @ChrisMayLA6 the tolls would be very, very small.
Boats take a long time to build, so after some time, irans "navy" would be disintegrated.
They then have a bunch of Jawas (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Star_Wars_species_(F%E2%80%93J)#Jawa) and sand people who will scream and hurls bombs, and those could probably easily be fought with ukrainian, cheap, state of the art drones.
@h4890
Hmmm..... the tolls on the Panama Canal (which are sort of analogous) have a long history. I'm not sure that other Straits would have the same ability to charge or the willingness/interest in doing so. But the Hormuz tolls look to have become a clear Iranian condition for 'peace'
