Will the solution to the Strait of Hormuz be an acceptance of Iran's right to impose a toll *provided* they split it with Oman?

And will the Tangerine Tyrant be willing to let such a settlement be part of peace deal without trying to snag some of the fee for the USA?

And, if that money is used for Iranian reconstruction would that be something that would push a ceasefire into a peace deal?

Or are we just going to see more escalation between two powers unwilling to back down?

@ChrisMayLA6 Tolls are a non-starter. That would mean, that every single country on the planet, who controls a stretch of sea, would have to impose tolls to counter the iran/oman tolls.

That would be economic suicide.

@h4890

Hmmm..... the tolls on the Panama Canal (which are sort of analogous) have a long history. I'm not sure that other Straits would have the same ability to charge or the willingness/interest in doing so. But the Hormuz tolls look to have become a clear Iranian condition for 'peace'

@ChrisMayLA6 @h4890 I suggest that Iran’s control over Hormuz is more of an insurance policy against the existential threat from Israel. Diplomacy is needed but the paedophiles and felons in the US and Israel prefer war-war over jaw-jaw.

@H4Heights @h4890

Yes, I think that is at least partially right; it's certainly been shown to be a useful lever for Iranian political aims

@ChrisMayLA6 @H4Heights Regardless of what one thinks about taxing the strait, yes, it is definitely a card to be used during negotiations. I would do so myself.
