As Renaud Foucart (LancasterU) points out Iran's 'blocking' of the Strait of Hormuz is an example of a key element of global politics when countries are trying to deal with asymmetric military power.... leverage.

'The countries that will thrive in the next decades will be those which manage to establish their own version of the Strait of Hormuz'... who can deploy some leverage against the dominant powers in the global system.

But, wasn't this alway true?
