I just realized that not a single programmer has told me that they sincerely think LLMs will take their job. A lot of folks are worried that management will try to make it a thing. But nobody thinks it will succeed. Managers otoh seem convinced LLMs can do their job?

@patigallardo.bsky.social LLMs are able to do lots of things developers do, but we just see this as Yet Another Tool. We'll still be here doing development, it's just a bit different to before.

In the short term I do believe there will be less job openings for juniors.

@patigallardo.bsky.social Yeah me too. The status right now is that you need to be somewhat senior to get good results from the LLMs, so any company that's implementing LLM-assisted development will hire/retain seniors and hold on juniors until they've figured out how to handle this.
