For Andrew Malkinson, whose life was ruined by (as finally proved) a wrongful conviction, the fight for compensation for this life changing damage continues.
It seems like the Inquiry into his wrongful conviction will find both Greater Manchester Police (first) and the Criminal Cases Review Commission (later) made crucial mistakes that caused him to lose 20 years of freedom, so his case for compensation should be strong.
But how do you compensate for that?
@ChrisMayLA6 It is not possible to compensate for that, since we cannot create time.
The only thing we can do is to give him lots of money, millions, to make these mistakes so costly, that the strictest standards of investigation and judgment will be used in the future.
But how much? 10, 50 million GBP, would that discourage the government and make it painful enough for them?

Indeed, exactly why I posed the Q.; how can you make up for this? as you say mostly by trying ti make it so costly as it won't happen again.... but in other sphere that seldom works, and so is unlikely to here either
