While using a nostr web app, looks like there was a bit of downtime and I got this 403 error.

Disappointing to see the bottom line that they are hosting it on Azure (Microsoft).

So even "alternative tech" is often hosted on BigTech resources. This is of course just the particular web front end that I was using and not the whole of nostr... but still disappointing to see.

The web app came back up after a minute or so of downtime.

@matthew I'm struggling with getting anything useful out of nostr. I do not want to use someone elses webapp, then I can just use X (which I don't).

And after giving gossip 10 minutes, it just felt like trying to drink through a firehouse, not to speak of the difficulty of finding something interesting.

I also found the sorting, blocking, muting, lists, subpar.

So any nostr fans out there who can give me some pointers in the right direction?

I do not heavily use nostr either, but I appreciate the concept. I follow a few open source and Monero people on nostr and have some interaction there.

I haven't had much success with Linux desktop clients for nostr either.

Anyone have suggestions for us?

Web clients work very differently with nostr than traditional social media (like Twitter or Facebook).

Some web clients are just applications connect to nostr relays. When you use the browser extension to "log in" the private key stays isolated on your machine.

As a result of your earlier question, I looked around at nostr some more and found a web app that looks cool. It is focused on the BCH cryptocurrency (Bitcoin Cash), but the app is easy to use and I like it.

The nostr web app that crashed on me this morning with the Azure error message was: Nostria.app

@matthew Thank you for the recommendations. It does seem like the only modern GUI:s to nostr are webapps.
