There's some software that has hard dependencies for systemd, requiring it. I don't know exactly what software that is, as I have been moving away from Gnome for quite a while (though still use GTK in Cinnamon and XFCE and in GTK specific apps).

There's quite a bit of server software where the automated installers expect systemd.

I haven't run into any "deal breakers' yet.
