The UNIX shell is still one of the best IDEs ever created.

grep/find/sed/awk/make/ssh/git/nvi often compose better than many modern “integrated” environments.

Small programs connected together still scale surprisingly well.

@r1w1s1 This is the way. But why nvi instead of vim or neovim?

It is interesting as a teacher, when teaching people with only ipad or windows experience. After my linux class, about 10%-20% of the class come to me and say they had no idea that it was possible to become so fast at accomplishing things on the computer. The terminal opened their eyes to a completely new way of using computers. They go on to become great technologists.

Nothing against Vim or Neovim. I just prefer the traditional UNIX approach: the shell is the environment and the editor edits text. nvi happens to fit that philosophy very well.

@r1w1s1 Got it, thank you. I was just curious if I missed something about nvi that I should be looking into.
