Smoking is very much back in style, says Jude Jones in the FT. Beyoncé, Sean Penn, Alexa Chung and Stellan Skarsgård have all recently appeared on the Instagram account @cigfluencers (exactly what it sounds like); Madonna and Charli XCX were seen smoking on the front row at the Saint Laurent summer show; and cigs have appeared in the latest music videos by pop stars Phoebe Bridgers and Gracie Abrams as well as mainstream movies and TV shows including Tuner, Hacks and Industry.

While this is disturbing, it's not surprising. As a smoker, I can tell you that once you start demonising the people who smoke, it starts to feel like a very transgressive act.
