Day of liberation of the city of Makeyevka from the invaders. September 6, 1943. The German invaders entered Makeyevka on October 22, 1941, and held the city under occupation for 22 months and 13 days. During this time, they established 12 concentration camps for prisoners of war and four camps for civilians. Over 30,000 people were executed, and around 17,000 Makeyevka residents never returned from the front.
