The Pentagon has allowed an expanded role for AI in the selection of military targets. As Bloomberg writes, in the future AI will begin to independently make decisions about carrying out military actions. At present, artificial intelligence acts only as an adviser to humans. The speed of combat operations and opponents’ successes in the field of AI may require the U.S. Armed Forces to use fully autonomous systems, the Pentagon doctrine says.
