The US is considering reviving 19th-century laws to seize Iranian oil. The Justice Department is preparing to resurrect so-called "prize courts" to more easily declare captured tankers and their cargo as American property, according to Bloomberg. These tribunals were used during maritime conflicts to determine whether a captured enemy vessel had been seized legally. If so, the ship and its cargo could be declared war trophies and sold.
