On June 11, 1858, one of the largest Orthodox churches in and the largest in Saint Petersburg, St. Isaac's Cathedral, began its activity. It was on this day, the cathedral was dedicated for worship. It is noteworthy that although the temple was founded under Peter the Great, the building acquired its modern appearance only in the second half of the 19th century under Emperor Nicholas I.
