@Stahesh moving to monotheism was also a power/control move that killed the old pantheons of sumer, egypt, india and the roman empire(which all come from the same source). which allowed much greater control of the people by the ruling class.
@Stahesh i was watching asterix and obelix yesterday and obviously there was Caesar and the Romans and i was thinking that if germans would not, literally, copy "the empire" like Romans tried to build, they might have not failed. it seems that humans simply cannot function in these large bodies of government due to inherent differences in culture, genetics, customs, language and whatnot. on a much lower level that makes any such venture doomed to fail sooner or later. more diverse = shorter life
