I wonder if it would be legal for a gun manufacturer to design a barrel that suppresses the sound to some degree by default. Probably not. The US government is gay.

@c Sounds like an integrated suppressor and you still need a $200 stamp from the ATF and a 6-12 month wait for approval if you're wanting to be a good boy. Fingerprints and a letter from your local Chief LEO also, depending on your state, if your state even allows suppressors.
One could also buy a lathe, learn a skill, and see what manner of form one can liberate from steel.
