They're only capable of maybe brief limerence before they start weighing the pros and cons of a relationship and committing further to it in the long-term against the more reliable fulfillment they found in other aspects of life during those dark ages. You can't just put a human being on the back burner that long and have them come out the same on the other side at your convenience. Women know damn well what they got up to all that time. It became a rite of passage for women to squander all their opportunity in life with the assurance that they could support themselves and find a man later anyway. It's wholly predictable to see the consequences becoming so mainstream now.
