Today, much to my surprise and great pleasure, I went into a small local grocery shop and it was proudly owned and run by a native White man. This was the first time I had experienced this since being a young boy. The last time I was in this shop, it was run by a disinterested Muslim immigrant, and the place was a dirty, horrid mess with half-empty shelves. The contrast today could not have been more stark: clean, full and organised shelves, plenty of fresh produce, and a friendly owner who was delighted to chat with his customers. There was a genuine sense of it being a community hub once again, rather than a place you would avoid unless you were desperate. It's amazing how small things like this can buoy the spirit. White people really should take back their local shops.
