Zelensky is claiming that the first trilateral talks between the U.S., Russia and Ukraine will take place over the next two days in the UAE, following the latest round of talks between U.S. envoys and Russian officials. This, as Special Envoy Steve Witkoff says there’s only one unresolved issue preventing a deal.

Glenn Diesen, a geopolitical analyst and professor at the University of South-Eastern Norway, noted that given the proposals we’ve seen from the West that ignore Russia’s security concerns, we are unlikely see a deal to end the war anytime soon.

This, as Ukraine’s new defense minister, Mikhail Fedorov, says that Kiev’s goal is “to kill 50,000 Russians a month.”

@BattleDwarfGimli @oneBasedBrother A big part is the splintering of any sense of community or shared culture today. Dread posted a statistic of 20% of the US population moves in a year (or 5 years?). That's one. There are any number of other issues today that yield the same effect we could list.

And places that still have a community are too small to affect anything and are under active siege themselves.

Everyone is just turtling up hoping to get by and get through whatever is coming.

Israel says they can weather 700 missiles from Iran in retaliation if the US strikes.

This tracks with what the IDF said last time during the "12 day war" where they expected they could handle about 1,000 Iranian missiles.

Why Iran doesn't just fire 5,000 missiles into Tel Aviv is beyond me.

@NitroDubs @Terry The design faults and main political authority that forced the tests were by jewish scientists/politicians in positions of authority, so you could certainly argue it could have been intentional instead of just incompetence, though either way it doesn't change that most of the blame was shifted onto the plant operators at the time who had not been properly trained/instructed on the reactor specs or proper safety procedures.
