As gratitude for everything, even in dire times, sharpens and elevates our perception so that ever finer, more elusive, and most high things appear, until our lives are filled with light and beauty even in the most adversarial states; so does ingratitude, whining, and constant complaining numb our sense to appreciate, perceive, and enjoy even the most obvious good; until only darkness and solitude surround us, and we lash out in pain, thinking us a victim of injustice, at the shadows of both friend and foe. It is a dark place we allowed ourselves to fall in at that stage, the belly of a ravine, with unimaginable depth where unknowable, hostile, and terrible entities dwell; we are one of them. It may be impossible for man alone to climb out of it, but there is a Light that defies all laws of nature, even the darkness within us, we find it in the name of Jesus Christ.
