Very, very long post, the tl;dr of which is: what we consider "marriage" is a modern construct, and not at all traditional, made solely so the majority of men won't grow to resent their inceldom and rise up and topple governments.

And that "Traditional" marriage before the industrial revolution was pretty close to what we have right now: most women freely choosing to share a king in his harem, and most men remain virgins as they plow the fields and die in wars.
