@Witch_Hunter_Siegfired I watched a video about how the Breaking Bad fans absolutely loathe Skyler White and I think the Psychology behind it is interesting:

Skyler was mostly based but spending most of the time with Walt made those who love this character dislike anyone opposed to him, regardless of legitimacy or not.

It's like going on r/TwoXChromosomes and always getting the female perspective where her bf or ex-bf is always the pos and her the victim. It's tribalism essentially.

@Wopu @Witch_Hunter_Siegfired Did you watch the show? When the focus was Walter, Jesse, and the other characters it was nonstop entertainment. Walters narcissism and brilliance was getting him into dramatic sticky situations that he would have to extricate himself from, often relying on escalation and the chemist bit. Jesse's ignorance and general bad attitude would do the same, and he'd have to pull through by more or less sacking up and stopping being a coward or a bitch. Constant satisfying set up and payoff. Same with the other characters. Meanwhile any time Skylar was on the screen it was woman complaining hour. All the action stopped, the set up and pay off dopamine farm was thrown in the trash. The entertainment was gone, all the bits were cancelled. We aren't going chemistry, we aren't doing gangster conflict resolution, we aren't doing detective intrigue or shyster lawyer shenanigans. When Skylar was onscreen nothing was happening and it was so boring you wanted to turn the tv off, but you knew that if you did that you might miss good content after she was off screen.

@TakodachiEnjoyer @Witch_Hunter_Siegfired I haven't watched the show in years but I disliked Skyler on my first, entertained watch.

If I watched it again with the indifference I gave to the Dance of the Dragons in HoTD, I'd be more sympathetic to her character in context. Walter was fun to watch, but a scum irl

@Wopu @Witch_Hunter_Siegfired Yeah everything she complained about was more or less valid and the suggestions she offered would have resolved the central plot points easily and with minimal problems. But we aren't here to watch "guy gets cancer and optimizes his solutions to ensure his families prosperity after his untimely death". We're here to watch "megalomaniacal asshole with a chip on his shoulder smashes a freezer bag of mercury fulminate on the floor in some cholos trap house as a flex". Skyler plot lines took away from that and added nothing. Every other character was either funny, exciting, or drove the plot. Skylar was just an empty void they poured screen time into.
