In the Stone Scriptures, it mentions two related concepts that many authoritarians simply can not fathom. Collective individualism and indirect vs direct selfishness.
Let's look at collective individualism first, it boils down to if an individual does not gain something from collective actions he should not partake of them. A collective indavidualist society won't force one to do something for the collective if they aren't getting proper compensation for it. Working a job cause the pay is worth the effort is an easy example I can give.
Now indirect vs direct selfishness is a bit harder to wrap one's head around. With direct selfishness one takes whatever they want and provides nothing in exchange, kind of like how relationshits with females are. Now with indirect selfishness one seeks to better themself or gain something but they provide something, a business owner is a good example of this.
These concepts when acknowledged by a society functions far better than one that tells you to do something cause it's tradition or the state commands it. Such societies are better equiped to thrive in an ever more atomized for it protects the honorable and hard working at the expense of the corrupted.
