That's because both the left and the right so readily trade safety for their liberties. That's a bad trade.
Safety is always temporary. Once the government takes your freedoms/rights, they never give it back.
Americans scream tyranny is wonderful, but Americans are unable to explain why Cubans try to escape even though Cuba has gun control and free medical care.
