Americans will look you in the eye and say smoking was banned because the state wants to get more money from cigarette taxes.

@freepatriot Most "Victimless" crimes really have consequences.  The Libertarian in me states  let adults ruin their own lives but don't make society take on the burden of care when they fry their brains due to drugs, etc.

How would you feel if you just spent 10 minutes trying to explain to someone that the USA used to be a free country and fought Communists and Nazis and then were told that toothpicks must be banned?

Maybe living in a free country leads people to be trusting and friendly and living in a police state causes people to be suspicious and rude.

Americans used to be surprised Russians from the Soviet Union were unfriendly.

Now that the USA is also a police state, you might understand why.
