@bonifartius @dae0aff870620203370785a25cd1e90cd6e787d9eec0708636cda97d5bc0cec4 @freepatriot I have filters as I use a gravity system as it is, but I live near the ocean. Honestly, I'll be 52 next month and I am seriously pondering getting something and travel the country for a couple years..
@RustyPoolGuy @dae0aff870620203370785a25cd1e90cd6e787d9eec0708636cda97d5bc0cec4 @freepatriot maybe look into those outdoor pump water filters. the one from MSR is pretty small, hand cranked and the filter cartridge lasts 10000L. not exactly cheap though, but i think it's ok for the value provided.
@bonifartius @dae0aff870620203370785a25cd1e90cd6e787d9eec0708636cda97d5bc0cec4 @freepatriot I personally, have 100 lb of rice, and 100 lb of beans. currently I keep 2 50 lb bags of both and cycle through them as I eat a lot of rice and beans... I'm thinking of breaking that down into 20's and 10's but have not.. For me, water will be the issue..
@freepatriot Voluntaryist here.
@dae0aff870620203370785a25cd1e90cd6e787d9eec0708636cda97d5bc0cec4 @freepatriot that's why i had the lentils idea. they store well, i like lentils so i can rotate them and they provide good nutrition. i really don't eat much canned stuff, aside the occasional beans or tomatoes.
@captainslow @freepatriot there are a handful of mormons here, but not nearly enough for mormon stores to exist ;)
@freepatriot MRE are thrown away money imho, much too expensive.
maybe reverse of the lentils is popcorn, you only need a heat source for it.
...
regarding water, i have a manually pumped ceramic filter. some are good enough to make water from a puddle clean enough to drink. i'd store a bottle of unscented bleach as well and add a few drops because it can't hurt.
underrated are unscented bars of pure soap. kills germs because of pH 11, makes things clean, it's really versatile.
