The genius of the modern system is that it has made debt feel like wealth and dependency feel like security.

The very same Americans who scream that they hate the police state then turn around and support the police.

WTF?

@freepatriot I don't really like electric cars, but I can't think of a valid reason to ban them.

Those who think everyone starved to death in Somalia when Somalia was lawless are wrong.

Wow.

Don't regulations raise prices and kill jobs?

Didn't the Soviet Union fail?

@freepatriot I have a cookbook from the early 20th century.

It contains methods for housewives to use to test whether or not pickles contain ARSENIC.

The reason this is in there is because unscrupulous manufacturers would use a small amount of Paris green, an arsenic based dye, to make pickles more visually appealing and retain their green color better. Of course, you had to test for it, because manufacturers wouldn't reveal it on the label.

Consider that manufacturers in the past marketed Dinitrophenol and dexamphetamine as ways for women to get slim and trim. Used heroin as cough syrup. Put highly addictive levels of cocaine in soda pop. Tetraethyl lead in gasoline.

Just take a gander at how many highly contaminated industrial sites have been left abandoned by conveniently bankrupt companies. Thousands of them.

I will admit that I am not a fan of the way the regulatory apparatus is used as an anticompetitive maneuver by industry incumbents etc.

But at the same time, manufacturers had AMPLE opportunity to prove that, without regulatory oversight or risk of lawsuits, they would act with proper care and caution for the wellbeing of their fellow man.

And with the opportunity they demonstrated that they would wreck the environment, poison people, get them addicted to dangerous drugs etc and sleep at night like babies.

I visit Cafe Hayek daily because of my respect for Boudreaux's work.

Americans are so batshit insane today that Americans scream free speech must be outlawed because someone might have an opinion.

You can have a free market with no regulations.

Do you think that the FDA existed in 1870?

WTF?

The free market can work without regulations because bad companies
will go bankrupt.

You can use private courts to solve problems.

No business wants to have a public relations disaster.

What happened to Valujet?
