A few times now over the last few weeks I've had people try to argument-from-authority me here on topics related to cybersec, development or privacy.

Yeah no. I'm about as OG as you get.

(what usually happens is that I then get blocked because these people can't handle their _feels_ getting hurt when someone doesn't accept their fantasies as ✨Truth✨ )

@troed What are the positions that people tried to convince you of?

@troed Interesting. He has a point though. My interpretation is that if you are doing something illegal, then don't use a commercial VPN provider, since as long as they are companies in any western country, they will be forced, one way or another, to help track you down.

If it's about nonsense crime such as watching porn, criticize immigration, saying the word "negro", then no government will ever bother with you, and they should be reasonably safe.

if I did something super illegal, I would

@troed never trust any commercial VPN provider, but would probably use a combination of hacked accounts, someone elses wifi, and then tor and/or i2p on top.
