13 million profiles – who would have thought it? We can certainly be a little proud. Everyone has done their bit – some more, some less, each according to their ability.
So now we have a huge, global, independent, federated network.

@h4890 I don’t think so. These are the people who decided to do things differently. Five years ago, there were 30,000 – that’s a huge leap, without any companies, without billions, without a lobby. It’s a huge number and a huge success that changes the world.

@reverend Art? I do not think that art is what is lacking. Look at FB, it is 99% excrement. I think the reason is marketing and money. If mastodon had as much money as FB, and spammed the world with commrecials, and paid Samsung and Apple to be the default app, then the nr of users would increase instantly from millions to hundreds of millions.
@reverend Ahh... then I understand. I imagine that music, like sport, is a profession where the largest amount of money accumulates at the top, and then the available money rapidly declines from there.
@h4890 Of course you’re right. But I’m a musician by profession and I’m here purely out of idealism, because I have neither the reach nor the opportunity to earn money here. It’s just the way I am. I want art to be free, and therefore all of us too. It’s a bit of a fantasy, but that’s part of my job.
