Microsoft was always bad at everything and depended on proprietary lock-in for ages until they were forced out of it one way or another, often due to open-source competition (thankfully!).

@Dan_Ramos Well, let me balance the view a bit. In many companies the leadership is so clueless and inept that for some reason they love the stuff. So they go all in. Employees hate it, but the leaders love it, so it stays.
