@coolboymew I think he's right. When AI is involved at all stages of production (production led by humans) what exactly does Made with AI mean anymore? If anything they should disclose if the art in a game was generated by AI. I would still apply that label fully at apps/games made by AI, which is a different category.

@irie I don't agree especially in this age of mass sloppification. I don't agree with the general AI hate, but """vibe coding""" is absolute cancer and would probably mean that your game is gonna be super buggy in a lot of cases. As for AI art, it's obvious for me, but it also usually means slop artwork. If it's done right, great, but there needs to be a disclaimer
@irie basically AI would indicate that it's a massive posterboy for sloppification, especially when used by those big corps like Epic

there are obviously good arguments to make against AI in this context and what I failed to explain properly is 'at what point do you draw the line whether a game development used AI or not when AI is so integrated into our daily lives?' Just think about basic queries, questions, research, etc., at what point do you draw the line and say 'oh yeah this game was developed with AI and this game was not?' it's almost arbitrary. Did a dev use AI generated art, AI generated assets, or did he code with AI, or did AI completely generate the game? The last case wood completely justify the AI label because it's a clear cut case. But everything that moves away from that, at what point do you draw the line and say 'oh yeah this was an AI developed game because the developer did some research using AI' I know it sounds absurd but you have to define the border somewhere
@irie @irie It depends on a lot of factors, but the truth remains that a lot of people has an insane hate of AI, and that might actually benefit some people in the short run, at the very least

The big issue with especially Tim fucking Sweeney saying it is that Epic Games, being an AAA dev, has actually no business dealing in AI. They HAVE the resources to hire people properly, artists etc. vs an indie dev that might not actually have the resources for it all

From my point of view VS Epic is that, especially for AAA, which I already hate the hell out of, is that it's gonna lead to intense sloppification even more than we have seen. For example, Starfield used Indian workers and studios and mass outsourcing for it and god does it shows. I saw recently terrible scenes from the FF7 Remake, a dance scene, and every NPC looked like it was outsourced to hell compared to the main characters. With the big focus on AI? Oh boy it's about to get much, much, much worse and I have no idea if I should revel these games getting crappier because it will hasten the fall of the terrible AAA industry or be sad because these games COULD be cool if it wasn't for the terrible AAA industry
@coolboymew @irie @irie AAA has already been a counterfeit industry over decades for unrelated reasons, so drink to the fall and build from the ashes.
@allison @irie @irie yeah, pretty much. It's still... games with this budget could be so fucking cool, but they aren't
