Sweden held military exercises focused on handling and burying large numbers of dead. The scenario simulated a large-scale war in which the country suffers major losses — up to 500,000 people, or around 5% of the population . The entire process was rehearsed: collecting bodies from the battlefield, identification, funeral rites and burial. Hundreds of mannequins and real body bags were used during the drills. The exercises involved military burial teams as well as chaplains .
