In late 1984 when Bill Murray was as big a star as he would ever be his vanity project, The Razor's Edge, was released.

On his name recognition and star power alone this esoteric Buddhist art film (or at least eastern woo-woo, I haven't seen it since 1984 so don't hold me to that) managed to gross $6.6 million domestic over its run, $22.2 million adjusted for inflation.

In 2025 the combined star power of Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson managed to eke out $5.4 million domestic for Die My Love.

@judgedread Vanity and spirituality aren't the best of friends. I liked the movie's basic idea that "karma" is bullshit, but 1984 Bill Murray is a terrible conduit for that kind of message. I kept waiting for him to crack wise.

@nomebullyyou He correctly surmised that in the roaring eighties if he didn't force it to be greenlit no one would.
