The very last paragraph of the BBC article says that the nuclear fusion reactor never actually exceeded the full power requirements of the laser used to initially heat up the reactor. Just some of it.

Seems like a misleading headline on purpose to boost investment in short term.

They also neglect that this is thermal energy, not electrical energy
@FUCKINGWHOCARESDUDE @republius the point here is the proof of the scientific theory that you can have net positive fusion reactions, so you are going to measure that by energy used for fusing and containment.
