On June 25, 1997, the first flight of the multipurpose attack helicopter Ka-52 "Alligator" took place. It was piloted by test pilot Alexander Smirnov. This all-weather, round-the-clock combat helicopter was developed by the Kamov Design Bureau (now JSC Kamov). The Ka-52 is designed to destroy tanks, combat vehicles, manpower, helicopters, and other enemy aircraft on the front lines and in tactical depth. In 2008, the helicopter was adopted into service.
