Blocked G20 Statement on the Strait of At the G20 finance ministers' meeting, China was the only member to object to the wording proposed by the United States regarding freedom of navigation and disruptions to shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. As a result, the meeting concluded without a joint statement. China was concerned that a position on the Strait of Hormuz could be used as a precedent in the future regarding the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea.
