@Cayhr @37712 @RehnSturm256 That's actually a pretty interesting question, but not only about anime, but in pop culture in general.
See, succubuses in folklore were just very beautiful women, but when you looked too closely and were not under their charm, you could see their deformities and imperfections, which took the form of claws in their hands and shit like that. No mention of bat wings. There's also an 18th century short story by Honoré de Balzac that is about a succubus, and she was just an insanely beautiful black woman (a Moor, to be more exact) who charmed men, no bat wings.
I don't know when pop culture decided to give bat wings to succubuses (and demons in general), but I think I have an idea. The Monster Manual in the 1st edition of AD&D, from 1977, had an entry for the succubus, depicting it with bat wings and even mentioning them in the text. And as much as we like to dunk in nerds and RPG, it's a fact that AD&D helped shape pop culture in regards to monsters and fantasy shit in the 80's, with it's influence being felt up to today.
