the idea that companies exist to produce shareholder value needs to be jettisoned entirely, that's a garbage reason for an organization to exist

@deprecated_ii Why is that? Shouldn't they produce profit for those that own them? Isn't that what "shareholder value" is?

@DoubleD because as the last 50 years of business show, when businesses are geared toward maximizing shareholder value they behave very badly and cause problems for everyone, often destroying tremendous amounts of social capital and throwing away hard-earned knowledge

a business does not exist in a vacuum
@DoubleD it's very good for shareholder value to outsource the entire workforce to asia. why should a business that was built by american workers with american money be allowed to do that?
@DoubleD @deprecated_ii
Because when you determine to produce profits you get more profits rather than better products.

It's anti-innovation.

@pepsi_man @deprecated_ii Maybe we have different definitions of profit. What do you think profit is?

@DoubleD @deprecated_ii
No I literally mean that if you only care about profits, you will stifle innovation to makes sure big line goes up.

Be good at what you do, have a little luck, and the money will come.
