Can Visual Studio be any more retarded? Trying to type in the solution explorer? It removes focus from the search bar every character you type while it reloads results. Also, it spawns and focuses the error viewer the moment you click into the build menu, whether you build or not. What inbred, window licking retards are responsible for such idiocy?

@binkle I'll check it out, but I'm probably going to switch to Notepad++ for my sanity's sake. I miss Atom. That was an IDE that didn't suck.

@RegalBeagle fair enough - I'm stuck with VS for my job so I have to stockholm myself a bit to make it through the day
@binkle @RegalBeagle did you try Rider? Outside of some highly specialized corporate tools it pretty much has 1-1 parity with VS except its 5x more responsive
@binkle @RegalBeagle yeah real quick note that the personal edition is perfectly legal to use on an enterprise environment so long as your company doesn't reimburse you for it (it doesn't cost that much)
@binkle @RegalBeagle pretty sure that's the standard usage data that all IDEs collect
@RustyCrab @RegalBeagle iirc they get VERY iffy about it. One of our sound designers got a call from IT because he installed a plugin for his DAW that no one had ever used before. You're "free" to install whatever you want, but they're watching :pleaddeath:
@binkle @RegalBeagle well, in that case I would ask them and cite others using it already. It's been a pretty life changing tool for me, and really nice not to have my computer lag every time I press enter on a text file
@RustyCrab @RegalBeagle i would absolutely love to use an editor that doesn't hang onto text files while im trying to save them like a pitbull with a small child in its teeth (multiple times daily occurrence)
@binkle @RegalBeagle oh I have been using resharper so long I forgot vanilla vs doesn't even have a fraction of the features Rider does with respect to automatic code generation (not AI)
@RustyCrab @RegalBeagle i remember learning how to use yasnippets in emacs for my own projects and it was a lifechanging experience compared to normal work
@RegalBeagle @binkle that is another option btw if you can't get them to agree to Rider. Resharper makes VS a lot more powerful and time saving. The one downside is that responsiveness is not improved because that's a problem with VS as a base product. (I was fucking shocked how much snappier Rider is when I first moved to it to the point that I thought something must be disabled or broken)

@binkle @RustyCrab @RegalBeagle iirc jetbrains has data collection only on their free programs that hey have recently introduced.

@RustyCrab @RegalBeagle i think after i roll off my current project i'll ask IT about a license. i know there are people who use other jetbrains things already so we might have a discount or licenses available
@binkle @RegalBeagle I wouldn't bother asking for a license if you have control over what you can install. It's really cheap and personal editions are fine to use at work per the license terms

@RustyCrab @binkle @RegalBeagle @Justicar

+1 for the JetBrains Rider recommend. VS Pro is pretty good when you're used to it, but no individual is ever going to pay for it.

Rider stole VS's lunch because it does the same at a fraction of the cost.
