I think DOJ charged Epps just to bolster his lawsuit against Fox. His lawsuit says he was going to be charged, so he would look stupid if he wasn't, it increases his "victim points", and it's trumpeted in the press (and to the jury pool) that this is absolute proof Epps isn't a Fed. It's quite the coincidence that Epps first had a roll in the DNC wet dream of a violent attack on the capitol and now he's involved in another DNC wet dream: taking Fox News off the table.
