@TenaciousGoat I'm on the fence for the first time. I think, honestly, it's because of my age. Like TFM with his arthritis, I have some issues and may be using a cane soon in my mid-40's. If I'm not myself in fighting shape anymore, what should I be pressing for? As a Christian, as a father, a live-and-let-live American, extremist, strategist, a private individual but who's looked up to as a leader, etc. Do I keep blending in, head down? What about alt-tech me? Just figuring out my transition.

You're looking at it from the wrong lens. Every army needs a lot more than soldiers, specially the knowledge, skill and experience that come with age.
The biggest impact come from the competence of older men up the chain of command and specialty roles you should focus. Mainly:
- Logistics/Supply Chain
- Financing/Treasury/Budgeting
- Strategy/Tactics/Leadership
- Intelligence/Spy craft
- Engineering/Electronic warfare/Cyberwarfare
- Gunsmithing/Medicine/Nutrition.
