Americans think that that the USA had no fly lists, no knock raids, lockdowns, checkpoints, smoking bans, curfews, Supermax prisons, CIA torture, NSA wiretapping, TSA groping, and license plate scanners in 1999 and insist that the Americans gave the government their fingerprints to get a driver license in 1970.
