According to Jewish law, his mother must be Jewish to be considered a Jew. His father's name Roosevelt originally comes from Rosa Campo Jews in Spain. When they were chased out of Spain, they changed their name to Rosenthal, Rosenberg, or Rosenvelt to blend in to new host countries. In America, they eventually changed it to Roosevelt.
